Policing Gender:
TERFS, Tradwives, & the Rise of Transphobia

We are a group of feminist and social justice killjoys, committed to learning about and fighting against injustice. A killjoy—simply defined—is someone committed to challenging the status quo. Our project aims to educate viewers on the different ways that transphobia emerges in digital spaces like TikTok. We break down feminist theory and propose killjoy commitments that will support viewers’ understanding of how transphobia and anti-gender sentiments emerge as a type of gender policing—one that aims to “correct” anyone or anything that refuses to subscribe to the gender binary of cisgender man / cisgender woman.
